Compare Winalot Perfect Portions and Forthglade grain-free wet dog food on portion format, ingredients, and value to choose the right tray or pouch for your adult dog.
Quick answer
Choose Winalot Perfect Portions In Gravy 40 x 100g when you want small, single-serve pouches that make portion control simple and cost about 36 cents per pouch. Choose Forthglade Complete Adult Grain Free Lamb & Butternut Squash 18 x 395g when you prefer a grain-free tray with no artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives and feed a larger adult dog. Both are complete wet foods, so the real decision is portion format and ingredient priorities.
Portion format: pouch vs tray
Winalot Perfect Portions come as 40 x 100g pouches. That fixed 100g unit is the main appeal if you have a small dog, a dog who needs measured meals, or you want to avoid half-used trays in the fridge. Forthglade Complete Adult Grain Free comes as 18 x 395g trays, so each opened tray is a much larger serving. That suits bigger dogs or households feeding more than one dog at a meal, but a small dog will likely need part of a tray and the rest stored covered in the fridge.
Ingredients and dietary priorities
Forthglade Complete Adult Grain Free Lamb & Butternut Squash is grain free and free from artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives. That matters if you are deliberately avoiding grains or want a shorter, more natural-sounding ingredient list. Winalot Perfect Portions In Gravy contains all the essential vitamins and minerals your dog needs for a 100% complete and balanced diet, so it meets the nutritional baseline without making grain-free claims. If grain-free is a firm requirement, Forthglade fits; if it is not, Winalot covers the essentials at a lower cost per meal.
Cost per meal and storage
At the catalog price of USD 14.59 for 40 x 100g, Winalot works out to roughly 36 cents per 100g pouch. Forthglade at USD 28.11 for 18 x 395g works out to roughly 40 cents per 100g, and the larger tray means fewer packs to buy but more food to store once opened. Pouches are easier to stack and carry; trays need fridge space and a cover once opened. If your dog eats 200g per meal, you would open two Winalot pouches or roughly half a Forthglade tray.
How to compare portions fairly
Ignore the pack count and compare cost per 100g and grams per serving. Weigh your dog's current wet food portion, then match it to the pouch or tray size that gets closest without constant leftovers. If you mix wet with dry, start with a smaller wet portion and adjust the dry amount so total calories stay steady. Always transition over 7 to 10 days, replacing a little more of the old food each day, and check the feeding guide on the pack for your dog's weight.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Portion control vs pack size: Winalot gives you 40 fixed 100g pouches, so you rarely waste food. Forthglade gives you 18 larger 395g trays, which means fewer packs but more leftover food if you have a small dog. Pick Winalot for small or measured meals; pick Forthglade for bigger servings.
- Grain-free vs complete-and-balanced basics: Forthglade is grain free and free from artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives. Winalot is 100% complete and balanced with essential vitamins and minerals but does not claim to be grain free. If grain-free is non-negotiable, Forthglade is the fit; otherwise Winalot covers the nutritional essentials.
- Cost per 100g: Winalot works out to roughly 36 cents per 100g at the catalog price, while Forthglade is roughly 40 cents per 100g. The gap is small per meal but adds up over a month. Compare total monthly cost based on your dog's actual daily portion, not the pack price alone.
